One of the best parts of fall is the beginning of scarf season. This certainly goes double for a bandana worn around the neck and tied with one knot in the back. Bandanas especially shine during September and October when days are still warm but evenings are chilly, so a full-blown heavy weight scarf is just too sweaty. Unfortunately, bandanas are frequently stiff cotton in that one paisley print.
Additionally, for many a bandana might not be dressy enough for work or going out. Enter the silk bandana. Silk bandanas which are just smallish square scarves look just as gay as regular bandanas, but they come in so many more beautiful prints. More importantly, I find silk bandanas to be more comfortable cotton bandana as the fabric drapes more smoothing around my neck.
Silk is a miracle fabric like that. If you want to look a bit rockabilly, silk bandanas also make great headbands. You can find her on the twitter , the tumblr or even on the instagram.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending that all Americans wear homemade face coverings in public to help stem the spread of coronavirus. But Trevor Logan, an economics professor at Ohio State University, will not be following this guidance. Logan is not alone in his concerns. On social media and in interviews with CNN, a number of people of color — activists, academics and ordinary Americans — expressed fears that homemade masks could exacerbate racial profiling and place blacks and Latinos in danger.

The Elephant Brand Bandanna Museum is finally open. It has been a short journey, but a long time in the making. The current collection on display is of roughly bandannas. The first floor features non-branded RN pieces, rodeo bandannas, and rare navy workwear brands. As any other museum the collection is constantly improving. We are always open to accepting rare and interesting pieces to add to the collection. The bandanna is an icon of America with a long and meandering history.
The designs, colors, and prints have then since become a staple of Americana.

We’ve all changed a lot during the last four years, but nobody’s image has changed quite as much as Tim Kaine, Virginia senator, and now, socially-distanced wild west bandit. An image of Kaine glaring down the Senate floor while wearing a bandana as a face mask is going viral, drawing comparisons to Old West movie tropes. It’s a sharp change in public image for the senator, who was largely panned as “America’s step-dad” during his run for vice president with presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
While he was previously known for his goofy demeanor and delighted reaction to the concept of balloons , Kaine put on a more stern mask — literally. Kaine has been making public appearances wearing a variety of bandanas covering his mouth and nose, which fall within the Centers for Disease Control’s guidelines for face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID While not every lawmaker showed up to Tuesday’s Senate hearing on reopening the country in the midst of the pandemic with a face mask, Kaine showed up with a bandana firmly tied around his head.

As scientists learn more about how the novel coronavirus COVID spreads, we’ve gone from the CDC’s nonmandatory recommendation of face masks to businesses and even states requiring their use in public, all in an effort to slow the pandemic. Bandanas, neck gaiters, homemade cloth face masks, and off-the-shelf cone masks are all acceptable, but research had yet to look at which form of non-medical-grade mask is the most effective.
A new study in Physics of Fluids has now done just that – and gone one step further, visualizing the effectiveness of different masks through a striking set of images available on the journal’s website. To run the experiment, researchers used a mannequin head and a fog machine to emulate coughs and sneezes. They strapped different kinds of face masks onto the mannequin and tested how far and fast the emulated “respiratory jet” of drops and particles could travel.
First, the researchers wanted to find out what happens during an uncovered, emulated cough. They observed that droplets consistently traveled well beyond the six-foot line currently recommended for social distancing.
